Welcome!!

Thank you so much for visiting our website.  The New Orleans Metropolitan Chapter of 100 Black Men of America, Inc. was established in 1992.  Since the inception of our chapter, we have been a formidable force in serving New Orleans and the surrounding communities.  We recognized early on during our tenure, that if our city was going to thrive, it was important that we take a frontline approach in addressing some of the issues that plague our community.  Education, mentorship, health and wellness and economic development have been our leading initiatives.

Countless studies show that the disparity in education for African American youth, versus youths in other cultures is not as wide today as it has been in the past.  This suggests that methods of intervention, such as tutoring and mentorship, are critical components in closing the education divide between our kids and others.  Likewise, it is equally important that our kids are supported financially so that they will have the resources necessary to be competitive in our communities.  The New Orleans Metropolitan Chapter of 100 Black Men of America, Inc. is proud of its legacy in providing weekly mentorship and tutoring in area schools, as well as having awarded more than $200,000 in college scholarships since our inception.   We proudly embrace our accomplishments, but constantly challenge ourselves to do more; to whom much is given, much is required and we take very seriously that responsibility.

As it relates to our commitment to health and wellness, and economic development, in recent years we focused our attention on childhood obesity and financial literacy.  Our personal experience as a chapter, in tutoring and mentoring young people, has taught us that kids are better able to learn when they are healthy and their basic human needs are met.  This, then, prompted our chapter to take new and different approaches that we had not considered in the past.  In 2008, we were presented with an opportunity to host the Tommie Smith Youth Track Meet, which had a diabetes education component and a track and field event.  Today, the Tommie Smith Youth Track Meet has become one our staple state-wide events, drawing as many as 1,200 participants.  Regarding financial literacy, our chapter took the “sooner the better†approach.  We initiated a financial literacy campaign at the elementary school level, realizing that that investment would increase the likelihood that financial consciousness would become a way of life for our children.
